     5 eggs
    4 t extract - vanilla or almond or anise (or any combination of the 3)
    6 c flour
    1 T baking powder
    1 t salt
    1 1/2 t cloves
    1 1/2 c granulated sugar
    1/2 c powdered sugar
    1 c toasted almonds, coarsely chopped
    1 c butter or margarine


    1.  Mix together flour, baking powder, salt cloves, sugars, and almonds in large bowl.

    2.  Add butter and cut into flour mixture (like you would for pie crust).

    3.  Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture and add beaten eggs.  Mix.

    4.  Divide dough into 4 parts and shape each part into a long roll about 2 inches in diameter.

    5.  Place rolls on 2 well-greased cookie sheets, placing each roll several inches apart.  Flatten rolls somewhat.

    6.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

    7.  Remove from oven and let cool about 5 minutes.  Slice rolls diagonally, about 3/4" thick.

    8.  Lay cut side down on cookie sheet and return to oven.  Bake an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown.
